Teraflex High Steer System

This High Steering Kit is made by Teraflex.  If you have moved your springs to a position that is above your axle or if you have given your Jeep a lift of 5 inches or more then the chances are good that you will need one of these kits.  This kit will raise the steering point that is on the knuckle by a few inches.  The exact height will vary with the application.  This will in turn raise the linkage of the steering, allowing it to stay out of the way of branches and rocks.  Even more important is that it will restore your proper steering geometry that was knocked out of whack when you lifted the chassis.

While there are a lot of advantages to lifting a Jeep, there are also quite a few critical issues that you will need to deal with – even if the lift isn’t one that is extreme.  One of these issues has to do with steering.  When you lift the steering box along with the frame but leave the steering arm with the knuckle where it was, the drag link has a steeper angle to overcome.  This is not good as it needs to be nearly horizontal.  This kit by Teraflex will reposition your drag link to a higher location while also allowing for you to mount your tie rod in a higher position as opposed to directly in front of your axle where it could easily become damaged.  The study Teraflex cast steel knuckle will accept a larger diameter tie rod end too which then allows for you to add a tie rod and drag link that are heavier duty as well.

This high steer system was designed to originally be used with the Teraflex best of the best suspension system for the Jeep Wrangler TJ – the MAX-LCG.  However, it was discovered that many of the Jeeps that had a lift higher than 4 inches that were still using track bars would reap the benefits of a solution for higher steering.  This kit beefs up your essential steering components.  It includes a drag link with tie rod ends that are capable of handling one ton tie rods, a tie rod, inserts that are tapered and a high steer knuckle that has been HD cast.

Please Note

This is not a kit that is all inclusive.  You will need to make additional modifications and these modifications are not included with the High Steer System.  Some of these modifications might include offset wheels, mounting a front track bar and front sway bar links.  Remember that when you make the decision to lift a Jeep, you are actually deciding to embark on a never ending project.

Just as your legs would be useless if it weren’t for the ankle, knee and hip joints that allow for the movement and pivot so that you are able to sit, kneel, run and walk, the same thing holds true for the spindles, steering knuckles and control arms in the suspension of your Jeep and the ball joints and bushings that allow for these parts to move in response to the contact the tires have with the bumps, the corresponding reaction form the springs and the input from you steering.

The bushings are responsible for allowing the control arms to be able to pivot down and up at your frame while the ball joints enable the knuckle and control arm to move in a vertical direction while the spindle moves horizontally.

Make sure that all of your ball joints are in proper working order and when you need to replace them, understand that there is no better option available than these Dana 44/30 upper and lower balls joints that are heavy duty and made by Teraflex.

Teraflex Brake Master Cylinder with Oversized Bore

The HD Master Brake Cylinder that is made by Teraflex has a bore that is oversized and it has a flow that is 14% more.  This is an upgrade that is recommended so that you will have a pedal that is firmer with your big brake kit.  This is the ideal solution for that soft pedal that can occur once you have upgraded to big brakes.  Jeep JKs from 2007, 2008 and 2011 are more susceptible to this so it is very highly recommended for those model years.

This master brake cylinder serves to compensate for the larger size of the caliper pistons that are found in big brake kits with a bore that is also oversized to have a flow that is 14 more for the volume of fluid.

Please note:

When you bleed the brakes, there are steps that need to be followed.  Bench bleed them before installation and pump the pedal slowly while bleeding them to avoid damaging the seal.

Eventually, here will be replacement parts needed for nearly everything on your Jeep and this includes the brakes.  This master brake cylinder is considered to be one of them.  The calipers will finally be ready to hang and the cast iron rotors are equipped with a dual bolt pattern to accommodate various applications.

Features at a Glance

·         The Master Brake Cylinder with Oversized Bore is made with pride by Teraflex right here in the USA

·         This master brake cylinder does come to you complete with a warranty that is very comprehensive

·         This master rake cylinder is meant for use on the rear axle of the Jeep TJ, YL and JK

·         It has a dual bolt pattern that will allow for it to work with a 4 on 5 bolt pattern as well as a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern

·         This master cylinder can also be used on the Jeep JK Wrangler with a model year that falls between 2007 – 2015 as well as the Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited with a model year that falls between 2007 – 2015

·         Once you have installed this master cylinder you will notice a that your brake pedal are now firmer than what you are used to

·         This master brake cylinder provides a fluid volume that is 14% more than what your normal master cylinder provided.  This is due to the oversized bore

When you start modifying your Jeep, you might find it to be a never-ending thing.  You start with a lift kit for more clearance, which leads to larger wheels and tires which then call for a big brake kit and now here you are looking at the master brake cylinder with the oversized bore.  Isn’t this fun?

Teraflex Big Brake Upgrade with Slotted Rotors

The Big Brake Upgrade with Slotted Rotors for the Jeep JK is made by Teraflex to be the ideal way to upgrade from the brakes that were installed by the factory.  These brakes are only for those Jeep owners who demand a performance brake package that can handle the increase in braking requirements that are necessary once larger wheels and tires have been added to their rig.  Installation is simple since they just bolt right on. There is no need for any type of adapter brackets, welding or cutting.  This is a big brake kit and it features oversized dual piston calipers and surface area so that you get an increase in clamping force.  The rotor is slotted, vented and balanced in order to provide more intense braking leverage so that the stopping distance can be substantially decreased and so that there is also a marked decrease in the buildup of heat.  The pads are semi – metallic and made from a composite resin so they have great stopping power even when they are cold which results in an initial speed scrubbed that is maxed out.  It also increases the life of the pads and reduces both noise and dust.  In order to use this kit, you must have 17 inch or larger wheels.

This kit has quite a few different perks which means that you can rest assured that you are getting the most for your money.  This kit will give you a clamping force that is enhanced because of the piston brake twin calipers.  The rotors are slotted for faster dissipation of heat even in inclement conditions.  The pads have been designed to maximize the area of friction for a grip that is fantastic as well as to reduce the rust and noise that are often associated with braking maneuvers that are extreme.

An anchor bracket in the factory style is used to hold the calipers in their correct position.  This also gets rid of any flex or extra movement that the system might have.  It is plated with an automotive grade silver zinc to make it resistant to corrosion.

The rotors are vented, and balanced for high performance and they make sure that the braking system remains cool so that you get the stopping power you need right when you need it.  There is a bolt pattern that is dual wheel style so that they can be used with a variety of wheel applications.  These rotors have been given an E coating to make them durable and resistant to rust.

BellyUp Transfer Case Skid Plate by Teraflex

If there is anyone reading this who doesn’t have a clue about what a skid plate is, it is actually a steel plate that is normally of a pretty heavy gauge that is attached to the undercarriage of vehicles in an effort to protect the parts underneath it from being damaged.  Typically, you will see these plates on off road vehicles such as Jeeps.

Skid plates generally protect parts like your steering assembly or engine.  They can also be found providing protection for the gas tank.  Skid plates are no your typical factory installed equipment because not everyone is an off road enthusiast.  Skid plates will add weight and possibly fuel costs to your rig.  Also, if they are covering any parts that need to be repaired then the work will cost more since they will first have to be removed.

This particular skid plate – the BellyUp – gives you an extra 2 inches when compared to skid plates made by the competitors.  The reason for this is that Teraflex designed it to have a lower profile.  You gain clearance that would be equal to that which you would gain if you added tires that are 4 inches larger than what you are currently running with.  The BellyUp Transfer case skid plate is made from steel that is 3/16 of an inch thick.  This gives you protection off road that is unmatched.

Please Note

·         The kit that is made for the YJ is not all inclusive

·         If you are running with a standard assembly for the axle that has a low pinion located in the rear then there might be a need for a few modifications for this to be a viable option

·         If you are running with a short shaft then you will need to purchase and use the short shaft kit

·         Some engine and transmission configurations necessitate a lift kit in order to accommodate the BellyUp

Features at a Glance

·         Teraflex makes their BellyUp Transfer Case Skid Plate with pride right here in the USA

·         This skid plate for the transfer case comes to you complete with a warranty that is unbelievably comprehensive

·         This skid plate is available for the Jeep TJ and YJ

·         There may be a need for some modifications to your exhaust system on certain applications

·         This skid plate is only recommended to be used on Jeeps that have been given a body lift of a minimum of an inch

·         Teraflex makes this skid plate from steel that has a thickness of 3/16 of an inch

·         If you do not go off road very much then you will not need this transfer case skid plate as it will add weight to your rig

Teraflex np231 Extreme Short Shaft Kit

This extreme short shaft comes in a kit and is made by Teraflex.  This is what owners of short wheelbase Jeep Wranglers have been wanting for decades.  This kit doesn’t just improve the strength either.  It also increases the length of the driveshaft by an amazing 7 inches when compared to the factory installed version.  That said, it is still an inch and a half shorter when compared to the Atlas II and more than 3 inches shorter when compared to the standard SYE kit.

This kit comes to you complete with everything in it that you will need to modify your factory installed 231 case.  The readings for the speedometer will be transferred through an electronic sensor and a tone ring.  In order to adjust this calibration, you will need a converter box.

Please Note

·         This kit is meant to go with only the 231-J transfer case

·         If you have an earlier version of the 231 you will also need to upgrade your mechanical speedometer cable to one that is electric

So what is the drive shaft anyway?  Why do we need them?

A drive shaft is what is utilized on a 4 wheel drive vehicle as well as on vehicles that have the engine in the front but are rear wheel drive.  In layman’s terms it is used to connect the rear differential to the transmission.  The drive shaft is connected on one end to a pinion on the rear axle.  The other end of the drive shaft is connected up at the transmission.

On vehicles that have front wheel drive, there is no need for a drive shaft.  Instead, the differential and the transmission are combined to make a single unit that is called the transaxle.

You may also hear the drive shaft being called the propeller shaft.  The drive shaft will typically be a steel tube that is hollow.  This tube should have a yoke welded on to either end of it.  The design is tubular because this enables it to be both lightweight and strong.  Most of the time, you will see vehicles using a drive shaft that is a single piece.  That said, many times trucks might have a drive shaft that is comprised of two pieces.  The purpose of this is to avoid any vibration in the drive line by cutting the shaft.

Features at a Glance

·         The np231 Extreme Short Shaft Kit that is made by Teraflex will extend the length of your drive shaft by up to 7 inches

·         The np231 Extreme Short Shaft Kit by Teraflex is still shorter than the SYE and the Atlas II

·         The Teraflex np231 Short Shaft Kit is made with pride right here in the USA

Teraflex Low Range Kit for Model 300 Transfer Kit

Teraflex has made this low range conversion kit for the transfer case.  Lower gear ratios – even though they have higher numbers – are critical when it comes to the ultimate off road performance.  When you lower your gear ratios, you can get your rig to travel slower.  This is often called crawling.  You can also get your rig to be able to climb over any obstacles without the necessity of relying heavily on the throttle.  While your gas pedal might be able to get you over those obstacles, you can also break parts of your engine in the process.  Ask any off road warrior and they will affirm that low gears are critical for any off road rig.

Until recently, getting these lower gear ranges was only able to be achieved by switching the ratios of the ring and pinions or even by swapping your transfer cases or transmission.  While the lower ring and pinion work ok off road the drivability on the highway is sacrificed due to the higher rpm of the engine.  This can lead to excessive wear on your engine as well as to a decrease in your fuel economy.  While complete transfer case and transmission swaps also work they can be extremely expensive and there is also a laundry list of other modifications that will have to be made in the process.

Features at a Glance

·         This low range kit for model 300 transfer kit that is made by Teraflex requires no changes to be made to the driveshaft

·         The low range kit for model 300 transfer kit by Teraflex requires no special linkages for shifting

·         The Teraflex low range kit for model 300 transfer kit gives you a true gear ration that is low – 4.0:1

·         With this low range kit for model 300 transfer kit that is made by Teraflex you will be able to increase your crawling ration by as much as 50%

·         The low range kit for model 300 transfer kit by Teraflex in meant for use on the Jeep CJ from 1980 – 1986

·         The Teraflex low range kit for model 300 transfer kit is meant for use with a transfer case that is a Dana 300

Please Note

·         Some of the Jeep Cherokees will need a quarter of an inch to be taken off of the shaft for input in order for proper functionality.

·         Due to the increase in torque that is a result of lower gear ratios some of the high performance or larger engines may experience drive train failure prematurely

·         Always be sure to do the installation exactly as the instructions inform you to so as to be sure that you will be safe both on and off the road

Teraflex Bellyup Transfer Case Skid Plate

For those of you who may not know exactly what a skid plate is; it is a steel plate – normally heavy gauge – that is put on the undercarriage of a vehicle in order to protect the parts that it covers from damage.  In general you will see skid plates on Jeeps and other vehicles that spend a good amount of time off road.

Skid plates typically will protect such components as the steering assembly or the engine.  You will also find skid plates protecting the gas tank.  You will not generally find skid plates as factory installed equipment as not everyone enjoys going off road.  Since skid plates add weight to a vehicle and can add to repair costs if they need to be removed this saves money for those who prefer the pavement.

The Bellyup skid plate that is made by Teraflex will give you an additional 2 inches than you get from other transfer case skid plates.  This is because Teraflex made the Bellyup to have a lower profile.  The clearance that you gain from this skid plate is the same that you would get if you added tires that are four inches larger than what you are already running with.  Teraflex makes the Bellyup out of steel that has a thickness of 3/16 of an inch.  This will give you amazing protection when you are off road.

Please Note

·         The Bellyup kit for the Jeep YJ is not one that is inclusive.

·         If you have a standard axle assembly that is low pinion in the rear then you might need to do some spacing for the Bellyup to fit properly

·         When you are using the Teraflex Bellyup you might need to make a few modifications

·         If you have a short shaft then you will also need the short shaft kit.

·         Depending on the type of transmission and engine you have, you might need a body lift kit in order to be able to use the Bellyup.

Features at a Glance

·         The Bellyup transfer case skid plate that is made by Teraflex is available for the Jeep YJ and the Jeep TJ

·         The Bellyup transfer case skid plate by Teraflex will require you to also get and use a short shaft kit – also made by Teraflex

·         The Teraflex Bellyup transfer case skid plate may require some modifications to be made to the exhaust system in order to get a proper fit

·         The Bellyup transfer case skid plate that is made by Teraflex is recommended for use only on Jeeps that have had a body lift of at least an inch

·         The Bellyup transfer case skid plate by Teraflex has been constructed from 3/16 inch thick steel
