If there is anyone reading
this who doesn’t have a clue about what a skid plate is, it is actually a steel
plate that is normally of a pretty heavy gauge that is attached to the
undercarriage of vehicles in an effort to protect the parts underneath it from
being damaged. Typically, you will see
these plates on off road vehicles such as Jeeps.
Skid plates generally protect
parts like your steering assembly or engine.
They can also be found providing protection for the gas tank. Skid plates are no your typical factory
installed equipment because not everyone is an off road enthusiast. Skid plates will add weight and possibly fuel
costs to your rig. Also, if they are
covering any parts that need to be repaired then the work will cost more since
they will first have to be removed.
This particular skid plate –
the BellyUp – gives you an extra 2 inches when compared to skid plates made by
the competitors. The reason for this is
that Teraflex designed it to have a lower profile. You gain clearance that would be equal to
that which you would gain if you added tires that are 4 inches larger than what
you are currently running with. The BellyUp
Transfer case skid plate is made from steel that is 3/16 of an inch thick. This gives you protection off road that is
unmatched.
Please Note
·
The kit that is made
for the YJ is not all inclusive
·
If you are running with
a standard assembly for the axle that has a low pinion located in the rear then
there might be a need for a few modifications for this to be a viable option
·
If you are running with
a short shaft then you will need to purchase and use the short shaft kit
·
Some engine and
transmission configurations necessitate a lift kit in order to accommodate the
