Teraflex Bellyup Transfer Case Skid Plate

For those of you who may not know exactly what a skid plate is; it is a steel plate – normally heavy gauge – that is put on the undercarriage of a vehicle in order to protect the parts that it covers from damage.  In general you will see skid plates on Jeeps and other vehicles that spend a good amount of time off road.

Skid plates typically will protect such components as the steering assembly or the engine.  You will also find skid plates protecting the gas tank.  You will not generally find skid plates as factory installed equipment as not everyone enjoys going off road.  Since skid plates add weight to a vehicle and can add to repair costs if they need to be removed this saves money for those who prefer the pavement.

The Bellyup skid plate that is made by Teraflex will give you an additional 2 inches than you get from other transfer case skid plates.  This is because Teraflex made the Bellyup to have a lower profile.  The clearance that you gain from this skid plate is the same that you would get if you added tires that are four inches larger than what you are already running with.  Teraflex makes the Bellyup out of steel that has a thickness of 3/16 of an inch.  This will give you amazing protection when you are off road.

Please Note

·         The Bellyup kit for the Jeep YJ is not one that is inclusive.

·         If you have a standard axle assembly that is low pinion in the rear then you might need to do some spacing for the Bellyup to fit properly

·         When you are using the Teraflex Bellyup you might need to make a few modifications

·         If you have a short shaft then you will also need the short shaft kit.

·         Depending on the type of transmission and engine you have, you might need a body lift kit in order to be able to use the Bellyup.
