There are many good reasons to lift a Jeep and every one
of them will make it more of a force to be reckoned with on the off road. You might lift your rig in order to
accommodate a larger wheel and tire package by increasing the amount of
available room in the wheel well. You
might choose to lift your Jeep in an effort to add ground clearance to enable
you to easily climb over rocks and stumps.
You might even decide that you want to lift it simply because you like
the attitude that a lift will give your Jeep.
Going off road in your Jeep is fun. However, you can’t expect it to be able to
make it over every tree stump and rock that you see…at least not without
lifting it. You can’t expect it to slog
through loose, deep sand or climb hills in mud.
You also can’t expect it to go the distance of the Baja and make it out
unscathed. In order to accomplish these
sorts of things there will need to be some modifications completed on your
Jeep.
He very first thing that you will need to do to your Jeep
is get larger wheels and tires. However,
the tires that you will need are larger than what your unmodified Jeep is
prepared to handle. These larger wheels
and tires though will give you the additional ground clearance that you will
need to be able to clear those stumps and rocks. The thing is, lifting a Jeep is more
difficult than just adding a few longer springs to it. Although most kits start out with longer
shocks and springs, every inch in lift you achieve will mean modifications to
other things will be needed. Things like
the brake lines, wiring, the drive train, the steering system and more will end
up needing to be modified. However, you
can lift the body on the frame itself which will get you an additional couple
of inches but serious lifting means a host of additional modifications.
